Sisterhood
I'm just one trans woman living and working in the UK who wants to do better for trans family, my trans sisters and transfem folk in particular.
After crowdfunding myself, I realised we could try to make this a bit less complicated for people. I decided to ringfence 5% of my income towards transfem causes exclusively. With my current salary, I commit to donating around £100 a month to transfem causes within the UK. This puts me in a particularly privileged position within the UK for a trans woman, which highlights the necessity of FiveforFive as stopgap on the way to greater change. This is the amount I can comfortably give, but realise it's a lot of money for most people to commit to each month.
But £5 a month may not be. If enough of us join forces, my £100 becomes £200 with just 20 people giving through FiveforFive. That original £100 becomes £1000 a month with just 180 people signed up to monthly giving with FiveforFive. £1,000 a month for UK transfem causes with the cost of a coffee (and a muffin, but still) is within our sight, and then onwards!
I want there to be ease in giving to transfem causes without having to seek them out yourself, or of giving only whenever you see something particular. I want a world where we don't have to crowdfund, where services and organisations for us aren't underfunded, but in the meantime I'll take a hub for giving with your support! I won't take a single penny of anything, I will just dole it out.
